The Builder Twins: A Summer of Creation

Two friends working on projects
"Hello, I'm coming over to your house."
"Sure, just bring your laptop and a Raspberry Pi."

Sometimes, certain friendships create moments you could never forget. For me, this is the story of when I met another fellow builder who, in the most non-racist way possible, became my black twin—my partner in creation, chaos, and countless adventures.

The Summer of Everything

All summer long, we lived and breathed projects. We'd build things, break things, learn something new every single day—together. Our friendship wasn't just about hanging out; it was about creating, experimenting, and pushing the boundaries of what two curious minds could accomplish.

After sleepless nights (quite literally), we'd show up to science competitions looking sleep-deprived but radiating that unmistakable "YEAH WE ARE SO GONNA WIN IT BUT LET'S NOT JINX IT" energy. We had our rituals: order ginger ale before we began, and occasionally treat ourselves to chicken salad right there in the competition auditorium.

The results? Sometimes we lost. Sometimes we won. But most importantly, sometimes we just had the absolute best time of our lives.

Shared Obsessions

Being twins in spirit meant we had insanely cool shared interests. Every city we traveled to (okay, it was only two cities, but still) became our playground. We'd explore everything we could find, go go-karting, and create the most memorable moments during those train and bus rides.

The energy we shared was infectious. Whether we were debugging code at 3 AM, soldering circuits that may or may not explode, or just vibing to music while our latest creation came to life—every moment felt significant.

The Playlist Discovery

But then, one fine night, while casually browsing his Spotify profile, I stumbled upon something that hit different. His playlists. Songs we used to listen to while building things together, tracks that soundtracked our late-night coding sessions and early-morning breakthroughs.

"Music has this weird power to transport you back to exact moments, exact feelings, exact people."

As I scrolled through those familiar song titles, a bittersweet realization washed over me. Due to us growing up, that time is over. We might never create those projects again. We might never have those spontaneous "bring your laptop and Raspberry Pi" moments.

Growing Apart, Growing Up

It's strange how growing up sometimes means growing apart from the people who shaped some of your best memories. Not because of conflict or drama, but simply because life pulls us in different directions. New responsibilities, new interests, new chapters.

The builder twins era—our era of endless curiosity, shared obsessions, and collaborative creation—had quietly come to an end. Not with a dramatic goodbye, but with the gentle fade that comes when two people's paths naturally diverge.

The Legacy of Shared Creation

But here's what I've learned: even though that specific time is over, the impact remains. The confidence to tackle complex problems, the joy of collaborative creation, the understanding that the best friendships are built on shared passions—these lessons don't fade.

Every time I start a new project, there's a part of me that remembers those summer nights. The excitement of discovery, the satisfaction of building something from nothing, the pure joy of having someone who gets as excited about your ideas as you do.

Some friendships are meant to last forever. Others are meant to teach us something profound in a specific season of life. Both are equally valuable. Both deserve to be remembered with gratitude rather than sadness.

To my builder twin: thanks for that unforgettable summer of creation. The projects may be over, but the memories—and the lessons—will last a lifetime.
